Big congratulations to Marius Oßwald, who won both the 1st jury price and audience award at the DMEA 2022 – Connecting Digital Health Newcomer award with his master thesis “A Generalized Framework for Investigating the Kinematics and Neural Dynamics of the Hand”, written here at our N-squared Lab.

In his thesis, he developed a system based on a multiview camera setup that enables the synchronous acquisition of high-density surface EMG and the deep learning-based generation of 3D kinematics of arbitrary hand and finger movements. He conducted a series of experiments with this system to test and validate it. The data obtained were then used for various analyses, such as predicting finger movement phases from EMG data and studying the effects of movement velocity on neuromechanical delay.
